Developmental Benefits

Children involved in swimming lessons at an early age reach important milestones sooner than their non-swimming counterparts. Language development, confidence and physical development are all achieved sooner in swimming kids according to a study by Griffith Institute for Educational Research.

“My daughter has grown immensely as far as her social and motor development since she started at Little Fishes”

-Dr. Kristin Mennemeir, Pediatrician

“In the car on the way home from swim lessons, I saw something in Ellie that I’d never seen before. A sense of accomplishment. She knew that going underwater was a big deal, and she had successfully overcome a fear”

-Hannah M.

“Both my kids love the water now and even bath times are better”

-Meghan W.

Swim Lessons reduce risk of drowning by 88% in 1 to 4 year olds.

-National Institutes of Health

“I started my child as an infant at Little Fishes to help prevent an accidental drowning”

-Dr. Kristin Mennemeir, Pediatrician

Dangerous Myths about Kids and Swimming

“I am so amazed at the progress that you have made with my daughter. Many of our friends have signed up to LFSS after seeing my daughter hold her own in water.”

-Mary C.

“Ryan started at Little Fishes at 2 ½ years old, fearful of putting his head in the water. After progressing through Little Fishes program, he joined a swim team and competes against older children because his skills are beyond those in his age group. Watching Ryan swim so fast in the last 25 yards of a race is a thrill, and we owe his enthusiasm and excitement in large part to his lessons at Little Fishes.”

-Monica R.

Regression is common among young children that swim only seasonally, and the idea that a child will pick up where they left off is not realistic. In fact, the longer a child is away from swimming, the longer it takes him or her to work back to the initial skill level. Children need regular guided practice to learn swimming, and maintain their physical and cognitive growth milestones.

4 Reasons for Swim Lessons during the School Year

In 2015, Little Fishes started a scholarship fund with a grant from USA Swimming. Additional funds were donated by our swimmers’ families and those who made a donation for their coffee at each location.

As of December 2015 we were able to make a difference to 375 children in our area…

Donations can be made at Little Fishes’ front desk or call Coach Mollie at (314) 647-7946
